The GAME plan process has been really helpful with planning for student success. Monitoring and assessing students is important to making sure that students are understanding content. Integrating technology is another aspect of giving students another way to learn new information. After reading through the NETS standards I realize that many of the standards are addressed day to day in the classroom. However, I have been working hard at keeping students and parents informed about technology usage in the classroom. Keeping parents involved in the classroom has also been what I have been working with. A class blog is a great way to make sure parents are aware of what students are learning about and it also gives them a chance to share opinions and insights.
The NETS standards are a great way for me to assess myself as well and make sure I am reaching those standards for the students. They serve as a guide almost and I can monitor what I have done in the classroom and continue to work on what I lack.
I just designed a class blog as well, as a way for parents to remain updated on the currents of the class. http://uprep-andrews.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree that if you have been doing your part as a teacher, implementing tech tools in your class when possible, then many of the NETS-S standards have already been addressed. I feel that when students have technology based goals to meet they are more adamant about meeting them because at this day in age students are enthusiastic with incorporating technology in their school and personal lives.
I was also surprised at the number of standards that are already addressed in my day-to-day teachings as well. I think we ave to come up with a way to show or identify these standards to the students.
ReplyDeleteI am going to post the standards in the classroom and mark off when we cover those particular standards. I am also going to set up a sheet that highlights the web 2.0 tools we use in the class. This way, the students will have an idea of just how much they know how to use.
